Partners Group has hired Simon Merriweather, the former head of generation at Centrica – he is set to join the alternative money manager in Zug, Switzerland later this month as a SVP in its global infrastructure investment business, overseeing global asset management activities.

Merriweather spent five years at Centrica in Windsor, England, initially leading the development of its renewable energy business before being appointed managing director of all its power generation activities, including its fleet of seven gas-fired power stations, five on- and offshore-wind farms and its 20% stake in EDF’s existing nuclear operations.

He left the parent of British Gas last summer. Prior to joining Centrica in 2011, Merriweather was chief executive of Advanced Plasma Power, a waste-to-energy company. Previously, he spent seven years at EDF Energy, the U.K. arm of Electricite de France, where he managed a 4 GW coal generation portfolio and a 800 MW CCGT plant.
